Corn chopping is done!

Spent the last 2 1/2 days chopping corn for Jeff. Got all done with just a few small break downs. The corn was the best in recent memory, we cut 1/2 as many acres and got at least 50% more tons compared to last year.

My son Nick came up and hauled loads for a day which really helped.

We did find a little mud too, would be corn chopping without that.

Went really well overall with only a few small breakdowns. Here is a short video of chopping.

Ah the good old days !! neighbor had the one row, I think Allis chopper , took a while to cut , I was the guy to haul full wagon back to silo at uncles place. This was in cent Wis

Two and a half days?! I started two weeks ago tomorrow,finished up last Friday. Didn't chop on Sunday,but I pushed it hard the rest of those days. 86 loads,all alone. Chopped,hauled,unloaded,pushed and packed. I keep saying that one of these years I'm gonna get some help with it,but I never do.
 
We are always a little slow getting our corn cut. It grows so big that we cut it with a chainsaw. I and three other men can only cut about one acre per day.
 
Scary time in memory I, as a small kid, was told to go up and finish off the top of a dome-roofed silo. The top cover was open and I stoop/crawled around under the roof with the roaring output of bullet-like silage, frantically pushing the silage to the sides and scared they down below would bury me! Hand forking down the daily feed amounts was never a chore, I liked the smell-go figure!
