Concrete footings...

...I am ready for the truck! I hired out the backhoe work. Then put stakes in the trench and used my water level to get an accurate level mark on each stake. Taped them off and sprayed an orange marker on each stake so I can see the level line while standing up. Both my daughters will be there. Neither has classes tomorrow so they are coming to help. I figure unless the driver is REALLY old, he may just hop down and pitch in...it has worked in the past! ;)

I have been involved in many, many concrete pours in the past. It was never likely that the driver would "hop down and pitch in" at grading the concrete. They were always more interested in getting the truck empty and heading back to the plant.

orange mark on stake for level line ?? just drive stakes so top is grade. then strike off to that level

Years ago I let my 12 year old Daughter stay home to help me pour a dog kennel pad,, as the driver got out of the truck he said, "Shouldn't that little girl be in school today?" and I said I think little girls should learn how to pour cement as well as learn how to make cookies,, and the driver replied "That's okay as long as they both don't turn out the same way"

One time, I had a driver come back and actually take my bull floater out of my hand and do the floating himself. And I've floated enough to where I couldn't have looked like I didn't know what I was doing.

Maybe he just wanted to show off.

if your using the ditch as your form,i hope it s deep enough that the frost doesn t get hold of those rough sides?

"Hop down and help." Remind me again as to why I have always been so stupid as to mix my own concrete!!

When I was little we built a new barn. Probably 40x30 or so. We mixed and poured all of the foundation and the front half of the barn floor as well. It seemed like a never ending saga. Dad must have known what he was doing. Last I saw that barn there wasn't a hairline crack anywhere.
