610 long tractor

Looking at picking up a 610 long.
The guy wants $900 for it and said he believes it is a balancer gear
that is bad.
Is there anyone who knows of these tractors that can tell me if this
sounds correct, how hard it is to fix and is it worth the amount?
Thank you in advanced for all help.

The balancer could be bad or loose,OR it could be the crankshaft has worn the thrust washers out and then it gets worse the crankshaft wears the block because the tractor was run with the PTO clutch lever in the up position.Worst case is whole short block will need to be replaced.Balancers will run you a few hundred Short block in the 3K range.
As always figure on the worst case and you won't be disappointed. Have you heard the engine run? Does the oil light come on? Any unusal noises?
