OT---Problems with eBay seller---Bicycle

I decided to look on ebay and I found a very nice bicycle.
I won the auction the weekend on Labor Day. Bike was shipped the following
Wednesday.
Stupid seller shipped the frame by UPS and shipped the wheels by USPS. He said
UPS didn't have a box big enough for the bike and wheels.
Next day, after shipping, tracking number for USPS stated Item Delivered. It was delivered in same state that it was shipped from, several hundred miles from me.
I contacted seller and he said he would check.
Never heard from him and I received the frame from UPS this past Tuesday as expected.
Now I have the frame with no wheels and the seller says he has nothing to do with shipping
and for me to wait?
I contacted USPS and they said package was returned to shipper. I contacted the seller with this information and he said he would not respond to any more messages concerning shipping. WHAT! !
Tomorrow, wheels will be FOUR DAYS late and I will file a case with eBay.
UNBELIEVABLE.

Keep trying to work with the seller while you file a case with Ebay. Worst case Ebay will issue you a refund.

I think you'll eventually be compensated. It's a real pain when things go wrong, have to play the waiting
game, but between Ebay and Paypal, they put up with no nonsense!

I've bought hundreds of items on Ebay, every now and then get a dud, just have to be careful. But I have also
saved thousands of dollars!

So far only encountered one jerk, and it was over shipping! I did file a case against him, mostly because of
his attitude. I quickly got my item!

If you paid for this through PayPal get in touch with
them. It didn't take long for them to get a situation
settled for us with a company we bought an item
from on ebay. Company would not respond to us,
but when we turned it over PayPal that very same
day we got a response from the company.

Good luck!!

A little advice: Do ALL of your correspondence back and forth through Ebay messaging. That way there is a documented contact both ways. As others said, you will get results one way or the other if you used Paypal especially.

I had a similar case recently. UPS said the package was damaged (box ripped) and with some delay
returned it to sender. The seller and I communicated and he resent the package and settled with UPS. I
gave him excellent feedback.

Had a UPS delivery yesterday, driver said he would put it on rear porch, went to check it out it was completly destroyed, jumped in car caught up with
him and refused it, in my opinion he knew along it was no good.

I've had a few run-ins with ebay sellers returning defective items. I've decided my leverage with
sellers is not to rate them, wait for a long while. That way, I can always give them a bad score.
Can't do that if I've already given them a good evaluation.

Sad to say, ebay is the only place I can find some items. Worst, many of those items come from China and it takes weeks to get. I'm waiting on thermsisters to make an air temperature sensor for my kawasaki mule.

Since this is a higher quality Trek bike that I think was purchased at a great price, I would like to keep it.
Wheels are four days past expected delivery date and eBay recommends that buyer wait three days before filing a claim.
I will file today and see how long I can wait for wheels to arrive.

Without a tracking number, and dealing with a difficult seller, I have no idea if there is any hope.
I would hate to file for a full refund, ship the bike back, and then have the wheels delivered.

Be SURE you file before the deadline or you loose all rights to refund... You can file your claim now... and wait for a while to see if it comes in. I have done similar. If it comes in later, you can simply close the claim. But if you wait too long...

I have bought over 1100 items off of ebay. As long as you pay attention, and follow the rules you will be okay.. As to the bike... dont fall in love with half a bike. Protect yourself first... and then see where the chips falls.

Last week I mailed a package economy mode "parcel select" and asked if I could add a tracking number. The USPS teller informed me it's now automatic on all parcels, the tracking number was printed on my receipt.

I would still file the claim to speed things up. Keep working with the seller, you can settle the claim later.

Hardnose seller informed me that he now had nothing to do with shipping and would no longer discuss

If the seller in good faith had shipped the item, it is out of his hands. If USPS says that it was returned to shipper, then the shipper should re-ship the item. I would think that he would be more cooperative in tracking the shipment so that all parties are satisfied. After all, it does not take too many complaints or negative feedbacks before a seller gets booted off eBay. I saw it happen to a couple of "power sellers" I know near me.
