oliver 4 cylinder engine identification help

I picked up this 4 cylinder engine which was off a man made tailer backhoe. The guy said his dad pulled this engine from a old Oliver combine. He said it ran good just hasn't run in a couple of years. He changed it out because it had no electric start. It only has a hand crank. I cranked it many times it never hit, hope to get it going. My intentions are to put a belt pully on it and run a buzz saw. From the picturs can anyone identify it or give me any information on it

Might be a continental ? Look close at the sides of the block for a tag riveted on.
Some closer up pictures would help us.

I had one identical to that, gas tank, radiator, the whole works,on a model 15 pull type combine.
I don't honestly know if it's Continental or Hercules.

I'm inclined to agree with you. I always figured mine was a Hercules without knowing for sure since Oliver used the Hercules engines in the crawlers.

I wonder if maybe Hercules had that setup available as a whole unit for different manufacturers?

I'd say its a Continental too because I have never seen a Hercules engine with the the exhaust up front its always in the middle.Front exhaust is common on Continental engines.
