OT The old goat...

...has passed away. When my daughters, ages 25 and 19, were little, I bought them a Nigerian dwarf wether goat named Eli for a pet. Eli taught me two things. Goats are escape artists AND it is best not to have just one goat. So I picked up another wether...Lucky...and a doe...Sugar. Eli and Lucky never much cared for Sugar and the two boys passed away a couple years ago leaving Sugar to deal with new, younger companions. Today I found Sugar had passed away during the night. Skinny and half bald, she had been acting a little loopy for the past several weeks. Discussions about putting her down before winter had been held. I have pictures of my youngest daughter bottle feeding Sugar in a year that makes her just shy of 18 years old. I would have to dig out her papers to see for sure, but she was one elderly goat! Funny how you get attached to these animals. Looking back, it makes one realize just how long 18 years really is.

my daughter raised a goat for 4H fair project one year so we had another one for company. I had never been around goats before and they are definitely escape artists and also very smart. We came home lots of days to the 2 goats out eating leaves off the apple tree. Watched the shorter goat one day push a dog crate over next to the building then jup on the crate and hit his shoulder on the wall and go over the fence. they were definitely funny guys. Sorry for your loss

That is an old goat.

I've got a few, Gus is the oldest at about 10.

I'll admit I've kind of taken a liking to him, and I'll be sad to see him go when it happens. The others are just pains in the butt, but my daughter loves them. She shows them with 4h.

Gus is the only that does what you want him to without any trouble - hops in the trailer first - goes into his house at night with no trouble - always the one left behind when the others escape. Fat as a house, and not much to look at, but he's a good goat.

sorry to hear it,,we have one thats getting old too,my wife raised him from a bottle too.
