Friend of mine just got a head gasket set for his JET Star 3 Diesel m Molene,,. the head gasket is a heavy carbon type of material with OUT FIRE RINGS!? .. we called them back ,they claim it will hold up , bolt it on andrun it for the next 50 yrs !!.. I also called a couple good motor heads that claim this idea is certain to fail ,,. don't know for sure what is rite ,,and wisht I could trust the parts house , it came from missouri

Here you go: Back when I still worked for Dana and they owned Victor gasket they decided to see if the newer materials would work without fire rings. They do on spark ignition engines. Post a phone number or a picture and we can discuss it in more detail. J.

Likely has to with the asbestos that they used to sandwich between to steel sheets and crimp in place with a "fire ring" being banned.

Just for reference, I have put in a couple of gaskets from the one that specializes in old gaskets (I don't know if I can say their name here). Their gray gasket with white spots does indeed have asbestos. They also said they lost their Canadian source.

Anyway, they told me that gasket was good for 1500 degrees and 3000 psi. One is in an Oliver 80 and the other is in a 1950 model 99.

RT (my 2 cents)
