Has anyone applied for Grant Money to help start or improve a tractor show or similar event? If so where and how to you go about it? I did google it but before I go too far I thought some of you may help point me in the right direction..

Thanks

I think grants are a bunch of BS!!! Why should I help fund something that I will have nothing to do with? Spend you own money on it, not mine!

I agree with you in principle. There are some privately funded grants available which skew my morality :)

Grants can come from many different sources. Many times a wealthy individual leaves endowments to provide grants for their pet projects. While Govt(our money) grants go in numerous directions, some frivolous and others not so much. I'm thankful for the grants for medical research. Cancers of all kinds, Alzheimer's, artificial limb, mental illness etc etc. We all benefit from those. Hope you can find something out there. Tractor shows and events are fun filled educational events. gobble

I went to a class on federal grants years ago. You have to jump through a lot of hoops. Our local show was looking at the possibility of getting a grant for restoring the farm house on the grounds and I was a director at that time and the finger was pointed at another director and me to investigate a grant. Again, this is a federally funded type of grant. Others might be different. The show grounds had to be open to the public for a certain amount of days in the year, we would have needed to submit a budget and report in every so often. The money needed to be used within a certain time. Wooden siding couldn't be scraped with a scraper or wire brush, a soft brush was to be used, and on and on the list went. If I remember right the house would have needed to be registered as a historic site. We threw up our hands at the idea.

I also wonder why you think the taxpayers (47% of the population) should subsidize your show which is a local event for local people.

There are many grants out there for tourism, historic preservation etc. My club is building an Agriculture History Museum on our club grounds , $100,000 building and we have $70,000 in grants and donations so far. Ground breaking in spring. Sources for grants, Farm Bureau (state level) Farm credit bureau, tractor dealerships, grain elevators etc.. If John Deere has a factory in your state they may donate. There are also many private foundations. Many require you to be a 501(c)(3) corporation, that is work to get but not too hard. Many of the bigger libraries subscribe to an on line grant software service that allows you to search for grant makers.I write grants for both my church and the tractor club I belong to. Good luck

I am opposed to most all grants. most go to the best liars in grant writing. Yes. I vote for the party that us known for giving grants but at least they are truthful about it.

Part of your statement holds true here in Minnesota with all of the sports stadiums that are built in the cites with my tax dollars......I will never use it but I guess its for the good of everyone (insert laughter here). If they want something there they just get the money from everyone but if there is a problem somewhere out in the "lower populated areas" of what people need you are on your own.

It would be coming out of the sames pockets the way you describe. So no need for a rift comment!

Our club recently filed for and received a grant from the local power co-op to install a water well at a local park where we have our yearly show. We had to submit proof of our 501c(3) status, provide a copy of our last year's finances, and answer a couple pages of questions that were reviewed by the board of directors of the foundation. The money for the program comes from "rounding up" each member's monthly electric bill to the next full dollar. When the program was put in place by the co-op, members received notice in our electric bills to "opt-out" of the plan if we did not want to participate.

Check with your County Government, someone there may be familiar with grants. Might even help write it if they see it as a benefit for the community.

There don't have to be a Santa Claus and you don't have to spend your own $$$ when you can get the Gov't to confiscate your more successful neighbor's $$$ and give it to you.
