Crazy GM parts prices

I need some exhaust manifold bolts for a 350 GM. Dorman makes a kit that is pretty reasonable, but the OE bolts have a 7mm hex on them, which makes them easy to install. Thought how much could GM be. Maybe $5 a stud and a few bucks a nut. Nope more like $16 a stud and $7 a nut x 6 pcs. The Dorman kit will work just fine.

Should have said "you are right". Had the front suspension bits (struts, ball joints) replaced on the brides 2005 Malibu Maax by a (really good) local guy for less than 1/2 of the cost of the Dealer (parts were the BIG difference - aftermarket made in the US).

Ford are any other is no different... When i do anything that has to do with the exhaust I add $100 to the estimate for the hardware and usually spend more that the estimate on the hardware...

I did not make it and am not going to work around it....

With out pulling the ticket the last ford 3.0 head job I did the manifold bolts, lead off pipe bolts and gaskets cost me in excess of $150...

2 are 3 of the manifold to head bolts were snapped off and a few lead off pipe bolts were junk... It was get'N all new hardware and OEM gaskets... Its out of my life it was worthe the price...

I just did one of the famous 5.3 AFM valve/lifter jobs. I noted when pricing the head gaskets, head bolts and exh manifold bolts, the OEM parts were a lot cheaper than the aftermarket local parts store (fel-pro). I have noticed using OEM parts is usually on par with the aftermarket prices, sometimes a bit cheaper. Depending on how the local dealer or parts dept marks their prices up might change this in your area.
