1926 Timken wheel bearings

I am looking for front tapered wheel bearings and races for a 1926 Gotfredson farm truck model 20B.

[b:d32fbc2cf9]They are Timken part numbers F419M and F2558M[/b:d32fbc2cf9]

I did not have any luck with Timken customer support because their computer cannot cross reference these old part numbers.

Any suggestions on who might be able to match these old bearings, or cross reference the part numbers to modern replacements?

Thank you !!!!

Try Google search for "Timken####". Just the number, no letters. I get several hits
with dimensions that would seem about right.

Try bearing dis. inc.

We have a store in the town close to where I live and I have never had a problem getting a bearing from them. I just give them the number and they cross it and can get it. HTH

What others said.

There are bearing places and there are bearing places. I once needed to replace a bearing from a Mercruiser outdrive unit. Part of the number was obliterated from the bearing spinning. I went to one bearing place and some dumpy guy at the counter with a cigar in his face took one look and said, "It would be a G....D.....waste of time to try to find one" and handed it back to me.

I went to another bearing place. The guy took a calipers out of his shirt pocket, took a couple of measurements, reached up on a shelf, and handed me one.

I finally got a Timken customer service rep who could access the old archives, and looked up a 1926 Gotfredson truck.

The Timken bearing cone/cap numbers were:

419/412

2558/2520

Got them off of Amazon for $292 for the entire front set. Glad to be done with it!

THANKS ALL !!!

I read the history of Gotfredson
trucks that you posted a while back
, that was a very interesting story

It is hard to believe that Timken doesn't keep better records than that! Their computer may not be able to cross reference the parts, but I'll almost bet that there are some books around there that will tell. A dealership where I worked referred to them as OSI books, (Obsolete, Supercede, and Interchange). If you live in a average to large town, there should be a parts house that specializes in bearings and seals, that should be able to either cross reference them or match them. As Goose mentioned, there are bearing places, and then there are bearing places. Today, many parts people just don't want to be bothered with searching for something in a book.

They actually do have records on every bearing they have ever made, you just didnt get a decent rep. Timken will make them if you cant find them, but its really expensive. I needed a pair for a 1914 Panhard' distributor, wound up modifying it to take bearings that were available,

Any opinion on the wear pattern on the bearings below? These are the larger, inner bearings on the front spindle. Notice how the inside surface of the bearings are worn almost halfway through the "TIMKEN" lettering? Despite this wear pattern, the inner bearings still had to be pulled off using a hydraulic puller. If the inner rings were worn so much, how come they still seemed seized onto the spindle?

The inner race is supposed to rotate on the spindle in use, but I think this is a case of the stamp being placed a little off.
Be sure the spindles are clean, smooth, and greased. The bearing should be a snug fit, but pull off by hand.
