Summer's End?

This chore always reminds me that winter is not far behind.

Back in the 50's, we had frost in August several times in ND. We'd have to shift gears and start cutting silage right away. That hasn't happened for many years now.

Fall was always my favorite time of the year in ND. The rush of harvest was over, but we were still pushing to get all the field work done before the snow came or the ground froze.

Here in AZ, fall seems to last just a couple of days and then we switch into winter. Only have a few days of spring and go right into the heat of the summer. But it never snows in our part of the desert.

It's a Tempte beet box with 3 sets of hydraulics; rear dump, side dump and a power side gate. I've modified it for grain and those braces are the lift mechansim for the side gate.

I don't even want to think about it! The wheat this year was a bust so we didn't keep any for seed. I'll plant one field with purchased seed so there will be seed the following year. The beans have to come out first. It's going to be a whopper crop from the looks of things.

That side-dump truck box is a new one on me - I've never seen that before. What is it designed for? Those IH drills were good units, I had a 100 disc drill years ago that was bullet proof.

I first saw side dump boxes in sugar beet country around Sterling Co. For some reason those side dumps were used for sugar beets. I was hauling wheat waiting to dump at a pit at an elevator south of Sterling. A single axle straight truck was sitting on the pit and the guy at the pit opened doors on the SIDE of the box. I took notice to that since I'd never seen any truck that dumps out the side. Then the passenger side of the box started coming up and that REALLY got my attention.
