Don't seem to see much of either now a days. Got some at the bank used them at the fair and other places. Have a few people who 1. "aint seen one of those in a while" or 2. "what is this" then they ask the boss/manager!!! I get quite a chuckle out of it!!!! Some local banks don't carry them and others have a policy to only give them out on request. Used to be fairly common years back so chime in do you see them in your area or get them?

Haven't seen any $2s lately. The machines at the turnpikes give out metal $1 coins-not Susan B Anthony. I have one on my desk at the farm. 1000 miles away. I do have a stash of $3 dollar bills with external_link's picture on each one. I give them out at Christmas and for gifts in general. (;>))

Had lunch at Subway one day last week.

While paying for the meal, noticed a "lone" 2 dollar bill in the money tray.

Peeled off a couple of 1 dollar bills and asked the young cashier to exchange them for the 2 dollar bill.

He said that he was glad to get rid of it because he wasn't sure if it would "spend" like other money.

I just laughed and told him that some folks believe that a 2 dollar bill is lucky.

Many years ago when I was a banker, I would get a bunch of 2 dollar bills to give to my daughters for their good grades on report cards.

Have three other 2 dollar bills: one belonged to my great grandmother, one belonged to my great grandfather, and one with red printing belongs to my daughter.

Now I've got one of Hank's favorite songs playing in my mind.

"I've got hod rod Ford and a 2 dollar bill,
and I know a spot right over the hill.
There's soda pop and the dancin's free,
So if you wanna have fun come along with me."

I was told $2.00 bills were printed for making $2.00 bets at race tracks. It cut the number of bills to be handled by 50%. I recall $2.00's were always more common around town during dog-racing season.

have also been told there is no spot in cash draw for them. They cause to much confusion and nobody wants them as a rule!!

I suspect that someday you will get up to speed. Coins are the thing of today. Here we have eliminated the penny (so, rounding up or down makes SOMEBODY extra $. We have the 'Loonie' ($1) and the 'Toonie' ($2). If you use cash as I do, at the end of the day I often have a list to Port with all the change !

Heck in another 100 yrs. Metric might join America (like most of the civilized world). No offense meant.

(quoted from post at 01:40:14 09/07/15) I was thinking US currency is on the metric system??????

I remember when Canada went Metric, and an old fella I worked with was quite indignant with the whole thing.

He said "Next thing you know the *&@@* Government will make our money Metric. Took a bit of schooling to get the old guy to understand!!

when I had a little store out in the country we were always running out of quarters, especially with game machines. So I got rolls of 50 cent pieces at the bank every week & gave them out instead of 2 quarters. Lot of customers loved it because they were harder to lose & easy to save.

A friend of mine has a small country store. He says that you can always tell when the economy is getting tough by the amount of odd or old money that he sees. In our area there is a fairly large percentage of old and retired folks. Once a few years ago there was a guy that paid for a tank of gas will all $2 bills. He said one that another time an old lady bought a few groceries with old silver dollars, He allowed her $5 for each one which was probably a bargain for him. He said that lately he's seeing an unusual amount of old money.

We had a local restaurant that always gave $2 bills in change , I bet the waitresses got a lot of $2 tips. To bad they sold out and is now a CVS drug (rip off) store.

In the past, I went to a barber that charged $7.50 for a haircut. If you gave him a ten, he would give a two dollar bill and a 50 cent piece as change. I still have a cup (somewhere) that is about full of those $2s and halves.

A couple of years ago a customer paid with 12 half dollars....6 of them were pre- 1964. I'll take them!

Canada has the Loonies and the Toonies. Makes for a lot of heavy change in your pocket if you have many of them. I'll have to look around to see if I have any of them laying around here.

If you gave me a picture of "the Occupant", I would do something decidedly un-Christmaslike with it. Are they septic safe?

I have a friend who likes to pay for stuff with $2 bills just to be mischievous. He said it is always funny when the cashier, especially young ones who may have never seen a $2, fumbles around and doesn't know what to do with them or even questions if they are real money. Adding half dollar coins to his payment method would really throw them off.

I still have the $2.00 bill that one of my aunts gave me back in the late 1970s. Never spent it. Think I have a couple more of them as well. I remember hearing in the opening monolog on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno several years ago, there was someone that went into a Dairy Queen and paid their order with a $200 bill.....he said that wasn't the bad part...the guy got change....

Anyone remember many years ago when the military used to pay off personnel with $2 bills occasionally? The idea was to show the locals how the base contributed to the local economy. Those $2 bills were floating all around the area, managed to get my hands on a few of them.

The last two dollar bills I had were given as change in the Disneyland parking lot back in the early nineties. Parking was three bucks, so Disney would use two dollar bills to give change.

There are several scrap metal yards around North Central Texas that pays with $2 bills and 50 cent pieces. I have several of each.

Vending machines in the area now give 1 dollar coins in change it's a lot better then a pocket full of quarters . Also check with gas station you can always tell when a kid gets in grandparents stash of money one even got some steel nickels from world war 2

Here in Canada they went to $1 and $2 coins, which is universally hated, but saves the government a lot of money. The coins last virtually forever, while the bill hd to be re-printed pretty frequently. Low denomination bills, on average, lasted like a year or something stupidly low like that. They changed hands too much.

There has been rumblings about a $5 coin, but I think they are too scared of being voted out of office over it.

Story about $2 bills. Terre Haute is a city where many factories have moved out of town. If a business tries to set up shop here, there is always opposition and very few move in, yet people complain about lack of jobs. Politicians complain about decreasing property tax revenue.

Long before I moved to Terre Haute in the 60's to go to college, there were many rail yards in town. Yep people complained about trains blocking traffic.

Well one of the rail yards decided to pay their employees with $2 bills to show everyone just how much they contributed to the local economy. He got his point across.

Even decades later, the local people want to run the trains out of town. On the edge of town is a Grain elevator which ships grain via RR. If some had their way, they would run it out of town too.

I hear that around here if you are going to go to certain types of adult establishments you want to go to the bank for your small bills first. If you cash a 20 there they take 20% and give you $2s.

I also think that it is a sign of the amount of thief going on, home burglaries etc. First weekend in August we were in Phoenix and I got two wheat pennies someplace, likely a fast food joint. that in itself is odd but they were consecutive years so I'll bet they came from a collection. Back in the 70's I worked at a farm supply store and every now and then there would be a lot of old money show up.

I always figured a sandhill rancher dug up another jar of money. Back then there were a lot of people who went through the 30's that did NOT trust banks.

Every so often Wheat backs show up around NNY.I save every one that comes my way.
A friend of mind handed me an Indian Head penny a couple weeks ago.Saved that too.

We save them here at our little store, matter of fact the wife just gave me my paycheck,a 2 dollar bill,4 dollar coins, a fifty cent piece and a pre '64 nichel.

I used to take in $2s for tips, in the dim lighting they got mistaken for $5s or $20s. I got thanked (for the tip) a lot better than everybody else. Some went gaga and hung around, thinking I was a high roller. Ya, it was a good time.... good, good times....
