Charlynn Power Steering Question.

What should I run in the system for oil?

We were going to put power steering fluid in it, but after further inspection, it looks more like 15-30 would be appropriate?!

What do you guys think?? Has the pump mounted on the Gov housing on a Farmall M, and the resivor is directly above it inside the hood. Power generator goes right by the gauges under the hood... Neat set up..

You can run any light weight, non foaming hydraulic oil. IF it is a completely different system ATF would work well. I have been using JD Low viscosity Hyguard in those type of systems for the last ten years or so. Mainly just because I have it handy.

The torque generator will be happy with something like universal hydraulic fluid, Hy-Tran if you have it, or that 303 fluid sold at farm stores.

The pump itself may or may not be happy with hydraulic fluid, but really, the UTF has about the same viscosity as ATF.

well.....

I am liking the sounds of atf. Have about 50 gallons of that around the shop, so I should have enough!! :p

Working on getting the front end on right now.... Going really slow, but it is going!!! ;)

Is it the cast iron Saginaw pump? If so that unit was used 56-59 in Buick, Packard and Stude cars and used PS Fluid.
