My 806 gas clamp wheel has been slowely wearing since I got it! I try to keep the bolts tight but its working pretty good now! Can I take it off and build it up and grind it down before the axle twist it out totally maybe get some more life outta the wheel its a gas dont get worked real hard chore tractor! Would 7018 be a good welding rod to use? Thanks

There are several options for building it up, but how will you get it back smooth again? Have you checked your local salvage yard for a replacement?

you can use nickel rod on cast but I dont know how tough it will be. I glued a JD wide front back together for a guy this summer with the stuff and he says its still ok.

Those wheels must contact the flats of the axle and not touch on the rounded part. To get by for a while I have used shims between the wheel and the axle. You may have to tighten them a few times before they stay in place.

What Owen said. If that wheel contacts the axle anyplace but the flats, they will not stay tight. I have also used shims. Hack saw blade in fact. It digs in a little. You can grind off the part that is contacting that is not supposed to. We sold a set of hubs with a new 1066 back in the day. Two u bolt, heavy duty hub. Found out the guy could not keep them tight. Happened to be our old neighbor at the farm. My brother was helping him and they would get on the end of a ten foot pipe and pull. After they finally said something about it, I looked at the hubs. Was easy to see the problem and he took them to the blacksmith and had him give them some relief over the top of the axle. They have been taken off and on a few times for final drive repair and never had a problem since keeping them in place. Dual 20 inch tires, weighted down. Wonder why we had to go into the final drive.
