Internaional Utility 300 Hydraulic pump screen colapsing

I have 1956 Int. Utility 300. I have taken the top of the hydraulic pump off and straightened the screen twice. It has a crease where it clogged up and colapsed the first time and apparently this is now a weak area. I was thinking about getting some heavy guage wire and making a coil the length of the inside of it to hold it apart. It is a real pain to take the top of the pump so I would really like to cure this problem once and for all. Any suggestions?

If you are going to do a redesign then make it larger. You want to keep it like as is. That is a very fine bronze mesh and can be purchased but ain't cheep. Remember a round design is the strongest but you can make little internal frames for strength. Many years ago my dad wraped all of the pipe fittings with Teflon. Crushed the crap out of the filter. Just a load of fun to change. What is in you oil to cause the filter to crush? Another way would be to take a small metal can from paint thinner or such and is like 2x4x6 or such size and use it as the frame and solder on the bronze screen. MUCH stronger. Put your tinking cap on!
