Disk question

We have a 19ft +/- Crustbuster nonfold up disk. Front blades are shot, 16-12inch and rears are 18.5. I've done the math and to rebuild the front, new bolts, 6 new bearings, 20+ blades adds up to just under 2k, another 2k to rebuild the rears plus all new scrapers all the way around.A equipment dealer near by has a older model John Deere 235 22ft fold down disk. Fronts are 19.5 rears are 18.5 like new tires. Has spring scrapers that look in good condition. Not sure on the hyd. hoses or cylinders. Disk defiantly hasn't been used in awhile from rust. They're asking $4,500. My first question would be is that disk even worth considering? Are they a peice of junk? Second would I be better off rebuilding what I got? And third, what is a fair price for that disk. I think $4,500 is a little high. Thanks.

Sounds like a 'wash'. However,my opinion. While the CrustBuster is apart, replace the bearings. Then you will have an essentially new disk for the 'same' money as a 'used' disk.So...My advise, fix what you have.

JD disks generally suck. IHC seem to be best closer spacing.7" If you like your disk I would repair it. If not look for a IHC.

I have to ask is this old disc an offset disc for deep tillage or a finish disc for soil preparation after like plowing /chisel plowing. The reason I ask is the 235is not s deep tillage disc like the offset is. Thus neither are interchangeable.
I mean by an offset disc on with only 2 gangs one one way and the other the opposite unlike the 4 gangs of the finish disc.

A JD 235 22 foot wing fold disk is a good disk. A JD 235 center fold disk is a ridging disaster. The 22 footer could be a center fold. IF it is pass. If it is a wing fold then I would dicker on it and buy it over replacing your ridged 19 foot disk. Your disk even fixed is worth about scrap value as you can't move field to filed very easily with it.

That Crustbuster is a deep tillage, but we dont use it for that. We usually hold it up and break up plow furrows and what we've ripped with it. We dont do deep tillage with a disk, most of our ground gets so hard it has to be ripped or plowed. Otherwise, you're just wasting diesel.

It has two wings, the John Deere 235. If we did rebuild that Crustbuster I dont forsee use selling it, but it needs a lot of work. Whoever owened it before use put acres on it. So JD what would be a fair price on that 235?

A good JD 235 can easily bring the $4500. If the paint is faded some then try for $3500-4000. It would be a good deal at that price.
