Straight cut gear noise in MH 44

Hi all, good morning and many warm regards! My 51 MH 44 has the typical loud gear noise you would expect from an old tractor with straight cut gears. At some point in the years coming I would love to rebuild the tranny and replace all the bearing but until then I wonder if there is anything that can be done to quiet the gears even a bit?

I changed the fluid when I bought the tractor as it was typically muddy from condensation and water contamination. At that time I filled it with diesel and ran it slightly to clean things up a bit and then filled it with new gear lube. I will have to change the gear lube out again this winter as I am planning on replacing a leaking brake seal.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Thank you
Jeremy

Maybe STP, or something thick.
Years ago the neighbor bought a used car at a car auction. Drove it a little and the rear end went out. They pulled it a part and it was full of saw dust.

Thats funny, when I was setting up the post I wondered to myself how long it would take for someone to mention the old sawdust trick, or oats...

I knew a guy once who replaced a rod bearing in a Chevy pickup with a strip of leather. Towed the pickup to about a mile outside of town, drove it to a dealer, and traded it off.

I didn't say I condoned it, I just said I knew someone who did it.

I use straight SAE 140 GL4 in my JD 2 cyls and also in my 33-34 fords . Really helps with noise . Stiff to shift in cold weather but warm up cures that .

I have a 1951 MH44, the gears were very loud, I added a couple quarts of Lucas stabilizer, quieted them down some. I am planning to go clear through it this winter. I will add the Lucas again.

Somebody traded in a nice looking 49 Ford car at the local Chevolet Dealership.

The salesman didn't take it for a test drive until the deal was done. It wouldn't start.

My brother was a mechanic there and was asked to took a look at it. The motor was cold and stuck. The car had coasted into the sale lot.

Many years ago As a kid I remember a mechanic doing that as a "temporary" fix. Guy drove the car for several years like that.
