Farmall M Ring Gear?

Bryce, yes that's what I paid for anew rg for my 400 case about 4 years ago. thought at the time was I don't want to split this tractor again for a long time. I could have tried flipping, but the teeth aren't beveled on the back. I could have rotated it to get a good spot for the starter. But I did not want to visit that same problem in 6 mos or a year. So bit the bullet and paid the 90 bucks. It seems there are always things to fix, don't want to fix the same thing over again. gobble

I jiggered around and messed around and hill-billied the steering on my H, invented all sorts of 'improvements', you know, nothing held, til I finally bit the bullet and bought new steering worm gear with shaft, from this site. All fixed, so I could quit worryiing about it, I moved on the next problem. Sometimes you just gotta.

farmall M starter ring gears can be turned over -- they are a straight cut gear -- round and round with a torch to heat the gear nice and warm and tap it off --just as quick turn it over and give it a third of a turn and tap it back on--may need a bit more heat if you go to slow -- did one like that 20 years ago and it works to this day -- good luck from NW iowa --- Roy

90 bucks is about the going rate for any old tractor ring gear.

You can take it off and flip it around. I've done that to Case tractors. I was in the CaseIH shop one time. They were doing it to a 4020 they traded for.
