Hydraulics Loader Issue

Lost Cub

New User
Hello. I have a 19 year old Cub Cadet 2284 super garden tractor and I'm trying to figure out why the (Kwik-Way) hydraulics loader doesn't move or go up. It does have hydraulic fluid in it and everything worked a couple of years ago when my Dad used it. I'm lost. I'm trying to move the tractor so that I can sell it. Any suggestions? Thanks so much for all of your help. Ross

If the pump is turning, and the fluid is full the first place I would look is to see if the pump is primed. This means "has all the air out of it", and only fluid inside where the pumping takes place. Putting air pressure into the reservoir with a hand pump,(I do not know what it looks like, so I cannot hint as to how to do it) at a modest 5 psi will assist in pushing fluid into the mechanism with it running. Another method is to loosen the out put line from the valve and put it into a clean container. (5gallon is reasonable, it could splash) ans then starting and stopping the engine. Good luck Jim

Gonna offer a stupid suggestion and I may be all wet.

Don't some of those garden tractor loaders run off the attachment PTO? Try turning that on and see if it makes a difference. I
only suggest this cause I have made mistakes like this myself.

Thanks Jim for your suggestions. I'll have to look into your ideas since I've never tried these before. I'm still kind of green with fixing tractors. Thanks again for your feedback. Ross

Thanks JT for your thoughts. There are no stupid suggestions at all. I'm still learning. I've tried turning on the PTO switch while the tractor is running and it doesn't do anything. One thing I am noticing is that the hydraulic lift control lever doesn't move. I don't know if it's locked in position or if it's just stuck. Do you know if these levers have a "safety" position on them until one is ready to use the hydraulic lift? Thanks again for your help, JT.
