Dt 466 oil pressure fluctuation

I posted this on 2 other forums here, but since this forum is the most active by far,I'll ask here,too_On a DT466,in a combine, has anyone ever seen oil pressure fluctuate rapidly about 5 psi at high idle, both on dash gauge and a manual gauge?Should we worry, pull a rod bearing,or would it be ok? The pressure was around 65psi.I've not seen oil pressure fluctuate like this, everything I've ever seen is rock steady, and this engine did not do this last fall. Thanks,Mark

certain ford diesels would do that when the cam holes line up and it allowed oil flow. Crankshaft can do it also on the rods and mains. Noticeable only at low rpms.

I would be concerned, either a rod bearing is ready to fail or the oil pump or pump drive is worn out. Every 400 series we've touched in the last few years needed a new oil pump and oil pump drives on the crank shaft, they were on the verge of not driving the pump.

That's what I was thinking, when the cam holes line up to meter oil to ??? Most engines meter oil to the rocker shaft. If it was worn or failing to pressurize, would that cause the fluctuation? Just a theory...
