Just bought a 1960 IH B-275 diesel. Looking for a tractor mechanic in the Kenosha, WI vicinity to diagnose a knock in the engine. Any suggestions on who to contact, Milwaukee to Chicago?

Seriously???? A IH B-275 with an engine knock is more than likely going to need more in repairs than it is worth. Not trying to be a smart butt but that model is not very valuable and is not cheap to fix the British built IH tractors.

Apparently you didn't mow several hundred acres on this tractor on your teens and don't appreciate the sentimentality . I really don't care about your opinion concerning the cost effectiveness of my decision. Does anyone know of a a good mechanic in my area?

They are not a complicated tractor to repair and any good tractor repair shop should be able to handle the job. You were a little snarkey toward another poster who thought the cost of the repair would be more than the tractor is worth but I agree with you in that it is your tractor and your money and your choice. However I would also say that there are some good running B-275 tractors that may be a better way to recall the good old days.

I did not mean to offend you!!!. I just wanted you to know that the repairs on this tractor could easily be over 2-3K range on the bottom side. IF the engine needs overhauled and the crank is damaged you can easily get into the $4-5K range. This is 2-3 times what the value of the tractor is on the open market. There are parts available for the tractor but many of them might need to be sourced out of England. Once again making the cost more.

Since it is a family tractor then for you is sounds like it would be worth it. It is not a complicated tractor to work on so like someone else posted about any repair shop should be able to handle it easily.

Sorry about the snarkyness. It was late and I was grumpy. I bought the B275 on Ebay for $600 and was advertised with a rod knock. I'm no expert but it sounds more like a valve or misfire to me. Wanted someone that knows what they are doing to diagnose before I start ripping into her. Steve in Wi, I sent you a safemail
