OT: VOIP phone services?

Vonage, Ooma, Magic Jack, etc.

Off topic, I have a new high speed internet provider, Bloom Broadband, who does not offer their own VOIP service (Voice Over Internet Phone), so I need to install my own. This is for a home phone that will not be used heavily, we do have a cell phone for backup 911 service if the electricity or internet are down. I'm leaning towards Ooma basic service due to the lower monthly cost.

Is anyone else using Ooma, Vonage or Magic Jack for VOIP phone service? Are you happy with them or would you recommend something better?

Thank you in advance for your help and advice!

I can't offer a comparison between services, but for my office (just two lines) I use Nextiva.

I've been using them for a couple of years now and have never had a problem. They have great customer service. I didn't buy my phones pre-configured through them (which they recommend for good reason), but they still spent a lot of time with me to get mine set up properly.

I went with them because they were cheaper than vonage, and the other big home service providers. I have zero regrets - but - to be clear, I've never used any of those more expensive providers, so I can't tell you what I'm missing. (I just can't imagine I'm missing anything - I pick up my phone - dial - the call goes through. I get all the normal voice mail - call forwarding "follow me" stuff - music on hold - etc etc. etc.

I just remembered one thing with Nextiva - they had quoted me a higher price, and I balked - they lowered it to match lowest I had seen elsewhere.

But the really nice thing is they locked me in at that price going forward - with no expiration.

And that applies to any new lines I add in the future.

Really can't complain there.

I have used Ooma for about 4 years now. It was very easy to install and has worked great. I have not had one issue with it. I too was looking at all of them but finally chose Ooma based on an comparison that Consumers Reports did on voip services and gave Ooma the highest marks.

Our company went to VOIP service about 2 months ago. For the most part, it has been OK, but we have had some issues. One thing to remember when you are connected to the internet you can be hacked regardless of the firewalls present.

I use voipo.com very great service with alot of features and xtras like sending to another phone or cell phone when internet goes down, blocklist and email voicemail.plus texting to and from via email.less than 8.00 per month. great support great company.they usually have signup specials 2 years for 185.00 or you can pay just 15 per month but I like the less than eight so do the 2 year at a time. never had any issues with service.
