Cell phone thought

I wonder what the result would have been,if instead of cell phones becoming the obsession that they are on their own, they had been ordered by the government? The government saying you have to carry an electronic device at all times. One that will allow you to be tracked at all times. That you have to check for messages at least every ten minutes. That you have to post your whereabouts and what you're doing online for everybody in the world to see. Then when you're used to it,make the devices larger and larger.

It is a thinly disguised plot by the government... all phones have gps, most people are glued to them during their waking hours, they voluntarily post what they are doing, where they are,who they are with. All emails and texts are run through the Government computers. Sadly enough we are already there, and the sheeple are voluntarily doing it. I guess I am one of the very few without a personal cell phone. My work phone gets turned on once an hour to check for calls and then turned off.

The government did not HAVE to issue them. The sheeples (most of us included) willingly went out and bought them, and won't believe the government is using those very devices to track our every move.

Don't worry. Just paint them all black, put on a pistol grip and call them an "assault phone" then the gov't will try to ban them.

"THE LAW OF UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES"

I don't care if it credit cards, cell phones, drones, GPS, Google, computers, passing a new law or whatever, there will always unintended consequences. People will figure out how to use them in ways no one thought of and some don't like.

Google, AT&T, Verizon has more info on us than the government, yet we don't want the government to spy on us. It's OK for Google to spy, but not your neighbor's drone.

You can turn off the location service on iPhones so you cannot be tracked. I lost one of my phones and called to have it located but the couldent do it because I never have the location services on. I thought the could track it some other way.

All new cell phones have come with GPS availability for years. In general or most cases, the user can disable it. Phase I 9-1-1 calls are cell phones without GPS that are triangulated using three cell towers to get an approximate location. Phase II using older GPS about the size of a city block. Phase III using far more advanced GPS in the cell phones of today, about 10 feet. A few years ago, some big shot from Chicago made national news for being fired for golfing every day instead of working, using his company cell phone's GPS records that put him on the links instead of behind his desk.

To your point, for example using biometrics which is being kicked around, some are suggesting eye-ball/pupil and/chips containing GPS for identification. Get your dog chipped, lose it, any vet uses GPS to track the dog down. Remember a few years ago when Coke had some sort of contest going on and put GPS on cans to track them? Apparently, not that expensive to do. There are some states, Oregon being one of them proposing using GPS on vehicles, like OnStar to tally up mileage and tax people for driving, and not mentioned, know where you and I are at all times. Attorneys are using the transponders in vehicles that were intended to be used for paying tolls on interstates to catch cheating spouses that clearly weren't where they claimed to be. Cameras are popping up everywhere, not just at every intersection in every big city. They are popping up on interstates as well.

Some say this technology is good, but others like myself see bad leaders abusing it for bad things. Hey, if a president can use the IRS to go after his political opponents and have a court rule no harm done, which did happen not so long ago, I trust no one in government at anytime, anywhere, which anything...and they earned my lack of respect for them and their families. Well earned.

My favorite trend (not) is cameras on trash trucks. Every street in the city or township is recorded every week.

I sure hope they find these no good for nothing Lugz shoes that I bought in June,2015 because they are a piece of crap

It's been in the news lately that the "authorities" (police) can acquire your location history (going back years) from the cell phone companies without needing a warrant. They are interpreting the language in a law from the 1920's concerning personal information. Apparently the whole issue is working its way to the Supreme Court.

Police have used the info to help prove that a person was at a crime scene, which begs the question can a person use as a defense that they were not at a scene if their phone wasn't?

I don't believe that turning off the GPS function helps much as the phone "checks in" with each new tower it finds. That is part of its basic function.

Keep in mind that cameras on desktop PC's have been hacked from the outside; no doubt in my mind that cell phone cameras could be hacked as well or even not so much hacked as being remotely toggled by design. They may see the inside of a pocket or could see whatever is going on.

even the Patriot Act requires a search warrant to tap your land line but ANYONE can listen in to a radio cell phone conversation.

Everyone has thier nnalert in a wad over government spying and snooping on everyday Joe. Guess what,Target ,Lowes,Home depot, any big box store now days tap in to your cell phone every time you are near thier store. All these free apps on your phone are for tracking every phone call ,text or internet site you visit.I don't hear anyone complaining about these companies spying on us. It is not just gps it is also wifi and bluetooth. Why do you think all these motels, hotels, big box stores offer free wifi? Nothing is free.

I remember back in the day when CB radios were all the rage. Some truckers had ones powerful enough to key the mike & blow everyone else off the air.
Wish I could come up with something like that while driving, Just hit one button & everyone on a cell phone around me would drop their calls. Sure would make traffic a bit more enjoyable.......

(quoted from post at 09:17:17 08/23/15) You can turn off the location service on iPhones so you cannot be tracked. I lost one of my phones and called to have it located but the couldent do it because I never have the location services on. I thought the could track it some other way.

In our area the gps tracking isn't very accurate. I accidentally called 911 a while back. They said that they had my location at xxxx. It was only about 20 miles off.

This "cell phone" you speak of, what is it?

You mean to tell me they've put pay phones in jail cells now? We're getting too soft on criminals!

No,it's something that people actually choose to become a prisoner too all by themselves if you can believe that.

If they ever move the three speed off the column,I'll have to give up my drivers license.

I doubt if a cell phone can be tracked if it's turned off and placed in a steel ammunition box.

I shoveled $ to Verizon for 23 years for cell service.
Threw my last cell phone in the trash two years ago.
Freedom...

I use an iPod Touch for camera, wi-fi net access (away from home), etc.
Have a Straight Talk "Home Phone" cell base station which I can also use when I travel.
The base station ($15 refurb.) uses Verizon towers, and I only pay $15/ mo. unlimited.

Love Scott's cat' pose.

I forget the details as it was on the news quite a while ago. People can get control of your phone and listen through the speaker to all your conversations. I also think it said the camera too. One of them (camera I think) they had to have your phone for a minute to make the change. Also if you have a TV that has voice command capability all your conversations are monitored and recorded.
