OK to tow zero turn mower?

I have a Great Dane Chariot 61" zero turn mower with a Kohler Command 25 engine with only about 350 hours. It seems to have blown a head gasket, and quit running in the yard about 100 feet away from my shop. I don't want to damage the hydro system by towing, but need to move it to a better location on concrete to look into the engine problem. Any recommendation on how far a zero turn could/should be towed, and any recommendation on anything to do before towing?

Look in your manual, can probably find one on line. There will be a way to disengage each wheel to make it safe. I would not pull it any at all without doing that. It will be some kind of a lever that mashes a button.

Thanks- good advice. I did not realize that they have relief valves but knew that I should not tow with the hydro's connected.

I would normally say don't tow or move it. Buttttt, my guys have definitely pushed my Toro's or Exmark's out of a lawn in the past if something happens and the mower won't move. I don't think it hurts much, we run all these a cumulative 4000+ hours a year or so and have maybe have one hydraulic pump or wheel motor problem per year. Just my 2 cents.

Jack it up and slide an old sheet of plywood or steel roofing under it and skid it to the shop on that. An old car or truck hood works good too.

Mine (a Woods) locks up and you end up dragging it. Check your manual to see if there is a bypass valve on each hydrostat.

My woods mower has a little lever on each hydro that you move a 1/4 turn and hook into a hole which puts them in neutral and allows the wheels to turn freely.

On my Country Clipper there is a relieve valve on each hydraulic motor for the wheels. Only safe to tow with the valves turned off.
