Another why NOT to bale Sunday.

RRLund and I have both learned our lesson. We
are forecast for rain on Monday night so I mowed
about 50 acres of brome yesterday. I just went and
raked it with the 4440. I'm getting too sensitive to
the heat to use the 4020. At one end I had cut a
waterway. I went to turn around (in C1) and hit a
hole so big it dropped the tractor to the front axle. I
promptly snapped my neck and hit my head on the
A/C controls so hard I almost knocked myself out. In
fact, I've knocked myself out easier than that. I
finally just finished raking and came in for a bit. I
can rest an hour and still get it baled tonight. Thank
goodness I wasn't on the 4020 - I'm sure I would
have been thrown off. Likely would have broken the
little axle on her, too. My gosh my head and neck
hurt.

Leave it parked. You won't get it baled anyway, and if you don't even try,you won't have to fix the baler tomorrow.

I just worked on fixing the chopper wagon today, and then sold a small truck load of hay. I had to make a small piece for the tensioner on the addition chain so I went in to work to make it up, lo and behold I had the exact size, both diameter and length I need, in my toolbox already. That was better than the shady I brought along that I would have had to turn smaller and cut off by a long shot.

Plus I wasn't working in the heat like the other poor guys who signed up to work the weekend in 12 hr. shifts. I did it last weekend when it was fairly decent out... the wagon still isn't fixed, but it's getting closer. The new steel should be at the farm tomorrow for the wagon, then we gotta get the chain back together so we can empty it then install the steel. Good thing it's only bedding in it, or it'd really be bad to have the wagon sitting with a load for the last 2 weeks.

I usually tinker around on Sunday, doing maintenance and what not, getting things ready to go for Monday, but today was the last straw for doing anything more than that. I've just hit that age where over the last few years, there have been several things where I've said enough is enough,I haven't "About" had it,I haven't "had it if,or unless",I've just had it and won't take anymore. The tinkering, where I can go out for 20 minutes and play around fixing something, even grinding feed so I have more time for field work the other six days of the week seem to work, but I'm done with all the coincidences that keep happening when I actually try to get something serious done. It took me 51 years after Dad said he'd never work on Sunday again before I finally said it. At least it didn't take a barn fire for me to say it.

I was raking hay on Thursday. I hit a hidden tile hole with the narrow front of my 560. Smacked my knee on the dash and scared the daylights out of me as the front of the tractor was probably 2 foot in the air. Spent Friday fixing tile holes and the rest of the weekend hobbling on my sore knee. I remember now why to not use a narrow front for raking hay.
