What is the average rent per acre in the
Piedmont? Does it change based on the crop
grown? (Hay,wheat, corn, tobacco, etc.)
Sorry this might not be the best forum to
post this question to, but I couldn't find
a discussion topic that fits it.

Several years ago after the tobacco buyout a local tobacco farmer was paying $100 per acre for tobacco cropland. i don't know if it has changed over the last few years.

100.00 an acre or more for organic tobacco in the Greensboro area is about average but that is for certified organic ground. Most row crop or hay farmers are paying around 35 an acre. Probably 50 for conventional tobacco.

I am not saying that FSA will tell what any particular operator is paying for rent, just the average. Nothing at all wrong with that.
