Drone takedown

I got a notice in the mail yesterday regarding my commercial liability policy. Seems if your business involves the use of drones, 'They no longer cover any kind of incident involving an unmanned aircraft'. Given that I am a mechanic, none of it applies to me, but I guess they foresee more getting shot down, and don't want to have to cover those incidents anymore than they do damage caused if somebody were to crash one into something important.

Crashing into something important might just be the next commercial airline. Who wants to be liable for that loss?
There have been multiple sightings and near misses on the eastern coast by commercial pilots. These little drones are flying way way higher than they're supposed to and in restricted airspace yet besides. So how long before one gets into the engine of an airbus and the media blames it on a local terrorist cell?

Did you see the photos of the Airbus 320 that flew through the hailstorm the other day>

After seeing those pics, I would GUESS that a little toy drone wouldn't give a jet engine any more trouble than all that hail did!

That was something, windows so crazed they couldn't see to land, and the nose was dented to be an innie not a normal outie.

Was looking at YouTube clips last nite and came across on, fella droned over a busy interstate or the like in a city, flew down among the traffic until he hit a semi, crashed on the pavement, got run over and all. Was kinda interesting to see, but. How dumb do you have to be to fly in traffic, what a distraction that is! Sheez.

Being a retired Air Force vet, I have seen lots of damage caused by foreign objects being injested in a jet engine. The smallest objects can cause extensive damage to an engine. A flock of birds can literally destroy an engine. I am sure one of those drones can do major damage as well.

I was on an Aircraft Carrier in the Navy. We had to watch FOD films all the time. One covered what a 1/4 inch bolt could do to an engine.Ripped the engine apart. Air gang did the FOD walk on the flight deck four times a day.

I heard on the news a week or so back that several times planes flying water to the wildfires in the west were grounded due to the number of drones around the fires. Stupid selfish people just want pictures.

They werent grounded, they had to circle away and they said delayed twenty minutes.

Drones will probably fall under the same heading as trampolines and jet skies on most insurance policies either have a special rider or insurance is canceled. With my policy a trampoline gets the policy canceled period. The potential for a liability claim with a drone is about unlimited.

It might apply to you more than you think ?

Imagine your down under some machinery and you need a tool from your truck. You could fly a drone in to get the tool and drop it down by you !

That could be a new business for someone: Catch some eagles and train them to attack drones that fly around your place.

The footage is priceless, eagle is like.... "not in my house" then it tumbles to the ground. I really wonder what could be done with falconry and these.

It doesn't take a flock of birds to wreck a jet engine.I saw one that injested a single gull. The engine looked like it had come from an aircraft that had crashed.
