Case 430ck - Grinding when putting into gear/fwd or reservse

Good evening,

I recently purchased a Case 430ck backhoe / loader. After running her fine for 2 days, toward the end of the second day it started to make a grinding sound when attempting to put her into gear and then forward or reverse or vice versa. We are able to do them individually without problem, but not together.

Example: Put it into 1st gear but when we move the selector lever for forward or reverse it wont pop into place with a grinding sound. Or with the gear in neutral, we can move the selector into forward or reverse, but as soon as we attempt to move it into 1st gear it does the same. Its almost if if the clutch is still spinning, not allowing it to go into gear.

My brother posted this on the forum a couple weeks ago (http://forums.yesterdaystractors.com/viewtopic.php?t=1231960) and I am expanding on it, with a desperate plea for help. :) So if anyone can give any advice, troubleshooting steps, and suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Here are some videos we did when the issue first started to help you all hear and see what we are.

Thank you in advance.

Could be as simple as the clutch linkage needs adjusting. There should be just a little freeplay at the top
of the pedal stroke, just enough the release bearing is not riding on the pressure plate fingers.

If the pedal is now lower than it was, and there is a grinding sound when the pedal is pushed, the release
bearing is bad. This will mean splitting the tractor to replace.

Could be the pilot bearing in the end of the crankshaft is bad, again, split the tractor.

Or, a problem with the pressure plate or clutch disc, you guessed it, split the tractor...

Whatever it is, if a simple adjustment doesn't fix it, you're looking at a fairly major repair. This is not
an area to take short cuts, very labor intensive. Best to fix it right once!

Looks may be deceiving, but that does not look like a fun tractor to split. My neighbor has an international BL with the clutch out. His requires the front end taken off and the engine removed to get at the clutch. He wants me to help him (he's 65, I'm 62). I told him I'm out. I think he's going to sell it as is.

I guess I will begin working on this one to take out the transmission, do any of you feel experienced enough to walk me through taking it apart? I can post picture's, video's, and updates daily or even hourly. The last transmission I did was done this way, it took four day's but I got her done. If anyone could write me a general list of what I have to do to get ready for that, I reckon basic things like take off the hood, locate the tranny connection points and find out if its hooked to the frame.

I would greatly appreciate somebody who could help me out. I happy to send you a t-shirt from my website (HuntingandArms.com) for the service/help. :)

Very respectfully,
Brian
