Local John Deere Dealership is offering a brand new 2015 5045E tractor, turbocharged diesel, 2wd, with canopy, 45 engine hp.& 37 pto hp., 7.50x16 front tires & 16.9x28 rear tires, single remote, and delivery included, out the door price for $15,500.
Case/IH is offering a used 2year old tractor with less than 500 hrs., 75 hp., 2wd, turbocharged, with canopy for $15,000 out the door. Tractor is in like new condition, with minimal leftover factory warranty. I just need an economy utility tractor around the farm. What would you do & why? Thanks!

.... And possibly down the road the case might not be as costly to fix, deere parts might as well be cast outta gold...

The case has a lot more HP than the JD. Do some quick research on most common problems with both models and cost of repair.

Would'nt it be better to have the horsepower available, yes you have to feed those horses but, for the same money, I'd take the extra hp. You will end up using it if you have it.gobble

I'd go case ih. It's double the power, and 37hp on the john Deere isn't going to do much more than pull a small hay rake. Also, I'd bet the case IH has bigger tires, which will give a smoother ride.

I have a John Deere PTO one row potato digger that my 60 hp Case tractor walks easy with. I have no idea how well that 45 engine hp/37 pto hp 2wd John Deere tractor would work with that digger, unless someone on this forum may know?

Depends on what you plan to do. If you are just doing a garden and small acreage go with the JD. If you are doing 40 acears or more go with the Case.

Depends on what you're going to do with it and what exact model Case you're looking at.... If the case is one of the very basic tractors derived of Ford lines I'd probably buy that outright. If it's not... I'd probably go looking for something else. I'm not a fan of the Deere's in that class at all but if you were comparing a 75 hp Deere I might well be inclined to look at that.
I think you need to decide how much tractor you need first because there's a lot of spread between those two.

You might also take fuel consumption into consideration. The bigger one will probably burn more and cost more to operate. So I would also look at weather you need the extra Hp. or not and what you are going to use it for.
I would also look at which dealer will give you the better service after the sale.

I'm a JD guy but from what you described and the comments it sounds like the Case hands down. If you haven't already go drive both for a bit. I am guessing the Case will win here. Paul

A friend of mine bought a E JD. Nothing but trouble. 8 visits later JD gave him his money back plus $1000 for a M. We have a compact 4320 JD 50hp Zero problems, electronic hydro 4X4 cab. But cost more than twice as much.

I went and drove the Case tractor, very nice tractor. John Deere Dealership says they don't have one in stock, and have to order it in.
