This is so-o-o-oo wrong!

Well, at least its not as bad as that guy in Yemen that was forced to marry the goat he was 'fooling around' with.

I remember a friend that got married and got a kid on the way fast like, just to dodge the draft. Later I had my turn to become a member of the US armed forces. I served my 2 years and about that time a divorce was in the works, I just told him 2 years wasn't bad at all. What a look on his face. joe

Well lets see here Greg. They where "practicing" the married part so the judge made them be legally married. I guess since your pretty left minded that it would have been better for them to just SHACK up for a while an have a couple of kids and then split so she could max out her welfare for the government!!!!!
The article goes on about how they could not have the wedding they wanted because they had not enough time/money/parents/wind blowing hard/ sky falling/etc. All a bunch of hoohockey. They had 14 days. Your just as married as if you spend THOUSANDS on some fancy deal.

In my opinion there should be more that ARE married!!!!

JD Seller- Wow! You sure got Jean Dixon beat!

I find it amazing that you can glean so much information from an article....like where did you read "They where "practicing" the married part "? then you assume "just SHACK up for a while an have a couple of kids and then split so she could max out her welfare for the government!!!". Then you go on to surmise..."The article goes on about how they could not have the wedding they wanted because they had not enough time/money/parents/wind blowing hard/ sky falling/etc. All a bunch of hoohockey.".

JDS, you are making a lot of assumptions.

In the 1960's one of our local judges like to give chronic trouble makers a choice between going to jail or joining the service. Most chose the Army or Navy and did OK. A few were wounded pretty bad in Vietnam and one character wound up doing his time in an Army brig.

Greg I looked up other articles on the couple. They stated they where "living" together already. The girl/woman was complaining how she did not have a "white" dress. (found that funny). How her Father could not be there. Had two weeks to travel???? How they could not "plan" a big wedding and such.

It irks me that people want to "practice" being married by living together and then want to act all virginal IF they decide to get married later. Kind of like shutting the door after that horse is gone.

The fact is the fellow slugged an ex-boy friend an was charged with assault. He was worried in court about his job but not when he hit the fellow. Might be hard hearted but this fellow built his troubles and is crying because he has any penalties. I really do not see how marring your girl friend is really much of a penalty. IF they really did not want to get married then just go get a civil ceremony and have it annulled after his probation was over. The cost of a marriage license is around $25 and an annulment is not much more than that either. So your not talking about much money to keep his butt out of jail for 15 days.

JD Seller- "They stated they where "living" together already. The girl/woman was complaining how she did not have a "white" dress. (found that funny). How her Father could not be there. Had two weeks to travel???? How they could not "plan" a big wedding and such.

Is it because..."It irks me that people want to "practice" being married by living together"? Guess what? People, nowadays, tend to live together before they get married.

Reference to me where it says in the Bible that a non-"virginal" bride cannot wear white? (Sorry, didn't mean to bring up a religious point).

Naw, I feel. it irks you because you think that anyone that does not belive as you do is therefore wrong. Plain and simple.

For instance, a few years ago I posted about and experience of taking my Mom to the hospital. My son and I went to the smoking area. We were approached and threatened by a male wanting a cigarette and we did not give him one.

You admonished me because you stated that 'I should just have given him one and it was wrong of me to put myself and my sons life in jeopardy over just a cigarette.'' But, now you post about "Holding" two guys you found fishing in a secluded section of your farm until the 'Law" arrives! And they had two Bass?

So, I ask you JDS, is your life worth two breeding size tagged Bass?

I don't understand...

Greg I was not too worried about myself with the fishermen as I was armed and they where not. So I was pretty sure I would be on top in any altercation.

When you where in the hospital your could not be sure you would have been on top in any altercation.

Different actions for different situations.

As for this current discussion. The judge might not have been entirely legal in his decision but all the two had to do was play along and the fellow can/could have been scott free pretty easily. If they had not wanted publicity them few would have to have known they got married if they did not consummate the marriage.

As for living together being the norm today or if not the norm common, That does not make it the better way. The numbers show that people who live together before marriage have a higher rate of divorce.

So someone wanted some fame. I do not know if it was the girl or boy but someone did or we would have never heard of this. I am just saying that even with the judge giving a weird condition of the fellow's parole it really is not much of a hardship unless the couple make it so. It is as simple as civil ceremony and an annulment. They can keep right on dating/living just like they have with little difficulty.

JD Seller- I appreciate your response but I don't understand some of your posits. "I was not
too worried about myself with the fishermen as I was armed and they where not. ". How did you
know they were not armed?

"When you where in the hospital your could not be sure you would have been on top in any
altercation. ".- You are correct, very much the same as you..

"As for this current discussion. The judge might not have been entirely legal in his
decision".- Yup, the judge was entirely WRONG in his decision. Judiciary can't 'force'
"marriage" onto people.

"but all the two had to do was play along and the fellow can/could have been scott free pretty
easily."- Why should they "PLAY" along with an illegal summons?

" If they had not wanted publicity them few would have to have known they got married if they
did not consummate the marriage."- I don't even understand that remark!

"So someone wanted some fame. I do not know if it was the girl or boy but someone did or we
would have never heard of this. ". - Naw, I don't think the couple wanted the fame...I think
the Texas Judge wanted the sensationalism much like the Kardashians.

" I am just saying that even with the judge giving a weird condition of the fellow's parole it
really is not much of a hardship unless the couple make it so. "- Why are you now trying to
MINIMIZE the judges decision? The judge was/is wrong in ordering a couple to marry.

"They can keep right on dating/living just like they have with little difficulty.".- They
should have never encountered this predicament to begin with!
