Ever think a banana could burn? Guess they can, trailer fire just before rush hour, still has traffic gridlocked 5 hours later! Oh the joys of the metromess, glad I wasn't up there!

They are packed in heavy cardboard boxes on wood pallets in a trailer with a wood floor. I doubt the bananas burned a lot but a tire or brake fire would be my guess as to what started it

I'm surprised they got the fire out before all the aluminum burnt. Once that starts burning its hard to stop.

Surely you've heard of "spontaneous banana combustion"? Happens all the time - that's why they have those little sprinklers in the produce department - to keep the bananas cool. Truck must have run out of water. :)

Glad I moved away from all that mess.I remember when they said the car pool lanes would cure the traffic problems. Somebody was dreaming.Really got fun when the new six lane highway. Ran into the old two lane section.

I'm fixing to read your reply, but I too saw that on the news last night and that was my reaction.

I was at the DFW airport freight terminal one day on business. An 18 wheeler pulled up and ordered an inflight freight container. While waiting I noticed that he was from Laredo, TX.....on the border if you don't know where that is. Inside the trailer was a layer of ice about a foot thick and 6 fish, all sharks headed for NYC.............................

Lots of why's to this but not really when you think about it.

The "car pool" lanes were supposed to "force" commuters to double up and share rides. At least that was what the thinking was when the idea came out. Turned out to be a waste of construction material and road building. Every drive time commute ends up with a slow crawling traffic in the regular lanes with a near empty car pool lane. But, every idea, no matter how stupid or unlikely, has to be tried out. Then they take on a life of their own and never go away.
