Hello, I just bought my first tractor.. A Ferguson TEA 20.. I am pretty new to tractors in general and have a couple questions as I did not get an operators manual with it..
1) What is the "S" gear?
2) what is the lever on the left side under the seat do? I believe it is attached to the hydraulic pump.. i used the lever on the right side to raise/lower the 3pt hitch, but do not know what the left side is for..

Thanks!

As already stated S is where you push the gear lever to start the tractor if it is original. The lever on the left side engages the PTO and hydraulic pump (as it is driven internally by the PTO shaft)

All the folks here are trying to help. There is a 'Ferguson' board on this site. Best advice is get the manuals (avail. from this site). HTH

Preston , this is a post I did earlier this week. Read it and learn, your tractor is about the same as this one that turned over. Best advice is be careful, never get in a hurry, get the books and think things through. Welcome to the YT site. joe

# 20( Starter switch assembly)originally would close when "S" position was used on gearshift allowing battery power to the starter, thus causing the engine to turn over. A safety feature so as the transmission was never in gear when engine was turning over on starter.
When # 30 is moved # 29 shall cause the sliding coupling # 22 to lock the PTO and hydraulic pump in gear. Moving the leaver # 30 the opposite direction takes the PTO and hydraulic pump out of gear.

Invest in a copy of the original Harry Ferguson Service manual
I purchased mine off e-bay.
"Ferguson SERVICE MANUAL"
Try to purchased a FERGUSON PARTS BOOK FORM NO. 693 041 M2...This book covers TO-30/T0-20/TE-20/TE-A20 Tractors.
I purchased mine off e-bay.
There is an operator's manual that would address many of your concerns
