what to do with an old hit n miss

LOL, did you notice how that big hit & miss engine joggles that old 56 Ford car chassis . :)

Here is what I did with a little JD model E (3hp) hit & miss engine. I turned it into a show and parade toy. Why ? just to make it do something. I get tired of old stationary engines at antique / threshing shows, just running at idle, doing nothing.

The rat bikes front wheel and frame are 75 Yamaha 400, the transmission is 48 Ford truck 4 spd, the rear axle is from a 73 Ford Maverick, the seat is from a Shields Bantam excevator, jackshaft and drive from a Versatile 103 windrower and the little JD model E 3 hp hit & miss engine.

Got it running for a couple parades last fall and this year added a foot throttle and clutch ( with chrome "bare foot" pedal covers, plus flag mounts. The ET mag wheels and JC penney wide white letter tires are stuff I took in trade 40 years ago. Also gave the chassis a coat of flat black this year.

Spectators get a chuckle out of it's "karoomp, woosha, whoosha, whoosha" exhaust note through the 6 inch chrome exhaust stack. Lotsa fun and a great conversation starter.

THAT'S why I never liked th ose things, just sitting there idling along. You're exactly right.

(quoted from post at 13:15:31 07/22/15) OSHA wouldn't approve of the exposed gear on the front of the tranny.

Yes, I have the left side sprockets and chain well shielded, but should add something on the right too.

I suppose if OSHA got excited about that bit of exposed roller chain and sprocket on the right side, they would really have a fit about the open flywheel spinning at 500 rpm out back :)
