My 01 dodge half ton on occasion and after warming up, doesen't shift into high . If I step on the gas and rev it up and get to 50 or so and back off it shifts into high and tork locks up. Only has 120,000 miles on it. I had it to mechanic shop last week for something else, they checked for a code - nothing.
I was told the throttle position sensor was a possable cause. Any ideas? thanks, joe

watch for a bad torque converter, if it goes it fills the transmission with chips. Google you model truck for transmission troubles. If it loses reverse there is a history of failures of that on there too. Owner of 2001 1500 dodge. Bill

I have a 2001 Dodge half ton, with the V6 although that might not matter.

I had a similar symptom, eventually after it shifts into high gear and you are holding your speed, it may seem to develop what feels like an intermittent miss and you will notice the tachometer jump just a little.

I tried everything I could think of finally posting a message right here about it and a fellow answered me stating that the throttle position sensor could cause that.

Indeed, that was what it was, the onboard computer was thinking that I was quickly pressing and releasing the throttle, it would unlock the torque converter and making the tachometer jump.

Not a real expensive item, worth a try.

My 96 3500 never shifted into the high gear. I couldn't get it smoged, because a check engine light was on. After having it in the dealer for over a week it was determined to be the over drive clutches were bad. It was a repair they did without removing the tranny. That's what my shift issue was. Stan
