I have a message that comes up on my machine that says "This version of Google Chrome is no longer supported" and gives a highlighted area to click on for suggestions as to why that message appears and how to get rid of it. I've tried the suggestions, but the message still returns.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

A little info would help us help: What OS, computer make, what site are you accessing etc.

but, I would try first updated Chrome from the google site.

Yes, more info.

Are you using Windows XP, 7, or?

Are you actually using chrome as your web browser?

Have you tried upgrading Chrome to a newer version?

Paul

The webpage has 'blinged' up and requires a newer browser which means that you may not have enough speed, memory, etc. to install the 'blinged up' browser that they've gone to on your present system. Microsoft has done this for years while with Apple it's more recent .

It's all about the money and what the current generation of 'techies' think is needed. For instance: Is Windows 'Vista' better than it's predecessor at 'getting it done'? Is Apple's 'Yosemite' any better than those operating systems (aka: OS) that it replaced? If you are talking about 'bling' or 'bells and whistles' then yes, they have more of that but are they 'better', I think not, BUT I did have to finally 'upgrade' and turn loose of some cash, so as far as 'they' are concerned, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!'

I got the same thing and it downloaded a newer version of Chrome. If you old one still works ignore it this new version is giving me a lot of problems. I have another word for it but won't use it here

Yes, I now have a new icon (lower right of screen) that is vaunting the new Windows 10. Checked with our local 'Techie' and he says "Don't bother". Probly too much different from '7' for me.

windows 7;

I guess I'm dumb enough that I don't know what I'm using as web browser, how do I check?

Didn't try upgrade, one suggestion mentioned "extensions" may be causing the problem, since I'm rather computer illiterate, I don't know how to monkey with "extensions" ):)

Just to be certain that you don't download some malware with that pop-up window... I'd go check if your Google Chrome is the most current version.

Open Google Chrome, then...

At top right, (next to star for bookmarking favorites)...

click on the 3 horizontal bars (it's your toolbox)...
Then near the bottom, of that drop-down menu, click on "About Google Chrome"

It will take you to a window where it automatically checks for updates -- then it will list the version of chrome and the words "Google Chrome is up to date".

There is also a button for "Get help with using Chrome" and a button for "Report an Issue".

If the button you click on to open the browser is a lower case e you are ising Explorer.

If it is a more colorful thing it likely is Chrome, offered by Google.

Look at the url link. If it looks abnormal, close it and don't look back. Had it today even. Getgoogle is not Google, and similar.

Thanks much.

In the "About Google Chrome" place it says "updates are disabled by the administrator"

Seems as I am the administrator or who else might it be?

Also it wasn't obvious how to find the place to 'enable' the updates

Seems pretty obvious that you have steered me to the problem and now I (WE) need to find how to fix it.

Again, many thanks

Just curious about the 'administrator' stuff - did you buy that computer new? I'm no expert with the various flavors of Windows but that seems like an unusual message to be getting if you have never played with the administrator account.

55 50 Ron,

My first step when I get something funky is to scan with my antivirus program and then with a program I bought that I bought for Malware.

Now we are getting outside the realm of what I know about - but I did some googling and for "a fix" of the problem you are referring, it is mentioning a "regedit" (registry edit), and messing with the registry would make me really nervous.

A. SO... what I would feel most-comfortable doing on my own computer - is to just remove Google Chrome as my browser... and then go install a fresh version of Chrome.
NOTE THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE FOR a WINDOWS 7 computer:
1. Click Microsoft Start button (bottom/left of screen)
2. Select "Computer" from the list
3. click on menu-bar button near top/left that says "Uninstall or change a program"... and it will quickly generate a list of everything on your computer.
4. Click on Chrome in that list to highlight it, then...
5. Click on "Uninstall" (located just above the list of programs)
6. Go to https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/ to download a new Chrome browser... there will be a link that says "go to download"

B. IF you do want to try the regedit (but like I said, that makes me nervous - I'd rather uninstall, then reinstall Chrome than mess around with the registry).
