Diesel in Gas Tank

Like an idiot, I topped off my gas engine Ford 8N with diesel. Only put 1/2 gallon or so, then realized my mistake. Have not started the engine since then. Wondering where the best place to drain the tank is? Fuel line coming into carburetor or is there a better one to use? Thanks in advance....

If you only have a half a gallon of diesel in a full tank of gas just run it. It won't hurt anything. It may smoke a little but nothing to worry about. When you burn up half the tank top it off again with fresh gas.

I put 5galons of kerosene in my SC case one morning before raking hay,.grabbed 3 cans from fuel dump and went to dads place an dumped them in ,the sc started well but needed choke after about 5 nimutes and was smoking a bit before I realized my mistake ,, no big deal ,,. I just smokt like a diesel ,, since pops place has a long valley thru it , kinda neat to understand this ...,. as the kerosene burnd out I moticed as I went to one end the smoking would clear somewhat , then when I turned around ,THe SC would smoke pretty bad and need choke ,,.apparently the kerosene was not mixing well and was feeding out more on the rite side of tank when I got on the slope ..

As other have stated, just fill the tank the rest of the way with gas and run it. You may see some smoke but it will not cause any harm. In my younger days while driving a large truck we used to put a gallon or so of diesel in the gas tank to keep the fuel from vapor locking.

That should add a little lubrication to pistons and valves, so just use it the way it is. Had a neighbor do that to an old Ford truck. It smoked until the Diesel was gone - then it ran better that it had before!

The exhaust may smell, but it should run ok. I put K1 kerosene in my 1981 Mercury Cougar & my wife complained about the smell. I had 5 gallons and I didn't dump all of it in the gas tank. Hal

Like others have said, just run it, you should be fine. I did the opposite on my JD. I added 5 gal gas to the diesel tank, to top it off. I noticed the tractor running a little hotter. After I realized my mistake it was too late. I had to have my pump rebuilt. Still can't believe I did that. Stan

I used to drive semi. When it got really cold and had to fuel up on the road I would put 10 gallons gas in each side of the 150 gallon tanks 300 gallons total and fill it up with diesel. I never had to call in because my fuel jelled up. It did not pull quite as strong but I kept moving down the road. I had always heard I could put in up to 10 percent gas with no problem. I do not like to push the limits so I used less. Usually only had to do that maybe one day a week as I would be in different climate before all that fuel would be used up.
