Farmall m clutch

I got a old Farmall m tractor running and the clutch adjustment is all the way out at the end of its threads but the clutch does not engage unless pressed clear to the end with a lot of pressure, is there an easy way to adjust this or am I gonna have to go inside and operate I don't know how much was on a farmall.

It is likely that the Pressure plate, Throwout bearing, and fingers are worn. The Liftall Hydraulic pump can be removed (use a floor jack and help, it id=s heavy and clumsy to handle. the clutch can be removed through that opening. Another issue with some linkages is that the bolts that hold the throwout fork to the cross shaft can begin to shear. if so that allows way too much freeplay. Jim

There's three small bolts with lock-nuts that maintain a 3/16" gap between the ends of the pressure plate fingers and the throwout bearing. THere's one little bolt / lock-nut on each finger. The gap is measured to be 3/16" with the clutch pedal resting all the way back against the transmission cover plate. Make yourself a small 3/16" wide tool of some sort, that you can stick up there to mesure the gap. I use a piece of copper electrical ground wire, happpens to be 3/16" wide. [ If I m describing this understandably. ] You rotate the engine / clutch by hand with a crank three times to get to the bolts from below.
Don't know about the M, but on the H the pressure plate finger gap can be adjusted very easily, from below, once you remove the small access cover plate. Might be it could be accessed very simply on the M too. When I adjusted my H, it made all the difference. Then you adjust that clutch rod length to leave a gap of 1 1/4" or so, 1 1/8" someting like that, between clutch pedal arm and tranny cover plate, with mere finger pressure pressing the pedal forward. Hope this makes sense, hope I am describing this helpful. Hope I'm correct for the M.
