Home owner JD tractor

Went by the local John Deere dealer to get a couple of belts for my mower.
They had these tractors sitting outside.
Seams you would have to have a big garden or kill a lot od deer to pay for these tractors.

First one is a 3038E with a small tiller and a D160 front end loader.

So what do you guys think of those prices?

Add about 4000.00 on it for the list price and they don't even come with a drawbar. I looked at one a couple months ago and it seemed that everything on them was an option.

A new loaded PU is $50,000.00 plus. What is $25,000.00 for a toy.( I sure as heck aint buying one)

We have an 01 4600, and just love it, at the time we bought it I said it cost about the same as the new Harley's that my friends were buying, and our tractor is a lot more useful, but now I have a pretty new Triumph too! People that buy these don't need to worry about if they are going to pay for themselves, like was said if you spent 50 thousand on a pickup whats 20-30 for a tractor, it will hold it's value a lot better than a pickup truck.

I am afraid they would go broke first before I would spend that kind of money on a tractor, I don't care how big it is or if it is new or used.

Love that driveshaft angle on that tiller too!
It would run a very short time before failing

Appears to me tiller driveshaft isn't attached to tractor but merely resting on the grass.

Same as everything else these days. Take $20,000 off the price and they are still $5,000 more than they are worth! The Mahindras and TYM's I have seen are about the same price, though.

ya, I priced them green ones....little high
My tractor loader backhoe is orange, but it still cost quite a bit.
I'm retired, according to the news, my income is below the poverty level...
I drive less than 3000 miles a year, so new cars/trucks don't interest me at all....[i:1c16b25441]how much[/i:1c16b25441] for that stripped down new truck?!?!
Out of my roughly 20 tractors, the orange one gets the most use.
manual labor? hmmph, that's what loaders and backhoes are for.

after all, we are on an old tractor site.
Read all the time about someone putting 6 grand into a ....Ford N.
so, who is being silly......

Wish I could of had one fifty years ago to clean out the big dairy barn when it all had to be pitched on the spreader. Have one now with a cab on it and even has a blue tooth for the music. Really gutsy little tractors. I think mine has a little more power than an old Farmall M. and much more nimble and handy especially with four wheel drive.

That's why I bought a Mahindra eMax 22... more tractor for less money than a Deere, and the perfect size for our little "hobby" farm operation. The wife liked the 5 yr. warranty and actually talked me out of a used tractor. It's not a matter of paying for it, it's a matter of time savings and convenience. We are still working full time, 2 hr. a day commute, and can afford a payment less than $200 a month but don't have the time available to get everything done. The little tractor and loader help enormously with chores and projects around the place. So, there are lots of reasons that folks buy these, although why a Deere I don't know, when there are so many options with better value out there.. Kubota, Mahindra, Kioti, LS, New Holland, TYM, Yanmar, etc.

They are all over priced "cheaply Made" toys, several of different colors around here setting with broken input shafts and other issues that make them set,,and it's near like buying them again to get them repaired....

Figure some folks have a 8 mpg motorhome, an airplane, a bass boat, a pool, a quad cab 4WD truck with a little 5'4" bed, go on cruises, or pay $100 per month just to watch TV. Some folks have a collection of unused tractors. If someone can afford it and it makes them happy . . . but (sigh) I ain't got none of them things so I'm with ya'll on this one.

Local deere dealer has these, I always wondered who would buy machines like that. To much for the home user, not enough for real work. Landscaper next door will rent one from them from time to time, but won't buy one, says it's cheaper to rent and not worry about equipment failure.

I have one, comes in pretty handy, put 75-100 hours a year on it depending on projects. Tiller to prep garden and go between garden rows, cultivator I shortened up also to go between rows, box scraper to level driveway and do landscape projects, mower to cut lawn, plow to plow snow. Wish I would've got it sooner. Found it on Craigslist with 1 hour on it, thought it was a scam but checked it out, drove 4 hours one way to get it and it worked out. Saved A LOT over new, pretty sure I could get more for it than I paid for it, especially with all attachments. One "toy" that holds it value, like said before, less than a harley...

I bought a new one in 1988 new. It saves me a lot of work and later I bought a backhoe for it. I used it a lot over the years but like everything else I buy for long term the company sold out a fews years after I got it. It has been trouble free all these years but I am starting to have a few problems with it now. The parts are getting harder to find and I have a long wait time for them usually. I am going to buy another one in the fall or winter for a replacement. It will be an orange one this time. The parts on it are all steel where the others are plastic. I would already have one but it seems to be my heart started acting up and I may need an operation so I am waiting until that is over with. I was shocked at the trade in value of mine. The tractor and loader trade in value is 400.00 less that I paid for it when I bought it

And in 10 years I bet you can still almost order an 8N out of a catalog... the newer little buggers get pretty hit and miss on parts availability with age.

The last LS/Montana we had in, for finding parts its saving grace was it had a JD engine. And JD was kind enough to put their part # on the sensor. Otherwise once you decode the poorly translated $75 digital manual (that you can't print) it is a month to get anything out of Korea. Went through that going through a trans on a different one a few years ago. I laugh at the restickered things every time I go to Cabela's.

IF I was to get one it be from a major manufacturer. CNH, JD, Kabota. That way if the dealer skips town there is usually another fairly close. That is what happened to the Montana guys, they bought them because they were cheap. The dealer closed up and all of the sudden the closest dealer is two states away and they keep nothing on hand.
