Fixed chamber silage balers

Vermeer fixed chamber should be a Lely, which I think is a Welger? Well respected, as are Claas. What dealer is near you? Claas more popular here.

Yes, Vermeer is a Welger/Lely. I have a good Vermeer dealer and have Vermeer equipment. I'm going to switch from a variable to a fixed chamber to do a better job on lush grass balage.

I have a claas rolant 46rc. I bought it this spring
and have baled around 150 bales with it. Kind of
knew what I was getting into, I've used other
model claas balers in the past. Good balers. Not
sure about the newer ones, but these older ones
are quite simple. I don't think you get as much
packed into these as you do a belt baler, but
works fine for me. I've used the knifes on a few
dry bales, and it chops it up into 6in +/- pieces.
I've learned to go slow toward the end of the bale
and run the pressure up into the red. Makes a
tighter nicer bale. Not really sure what info you
want. Krone makes a fixed chamber also. They
look impressive, but never seen one in action yet.

If it is a Welger it will be a great baler. I had family that was a Welger dealer for several years and we bought a used one two years ago.The balers made across the ocean are ahead of us in hi-moisture hay technology as that is mostly what they make. Tom

I haven't used any of the new ones... but have done a lot of work with a Claas 44s.. and to be honest if I was looking for another silage baler there would be nothing else but Claas. I won't pretend that they make the prettiest or densest bale but they will bale and do it fast. I've always been of the opinion that fast steady baling is much preferable to pretty bales that take forever to make because you're fighting with a belt baler that that can't bale wet material or a meccano set (chain baler) that won't stay together. It's basically why Claas is one of the most prominent balers in the world where they largely bale silage...
