Haying - My GREATEST Acheivement....

Baled up some broken/loose square bales today, been on my list of chores for a while, so today was the day. Only had a bit of twine left, so before starting, tied in a couple of new balls of twine. Probably the worse looking knot I've tied, but somehow it worked!

Don't know why, but I get more of a kick out of getting the knot through to a bale than solving the banana bale mystery... LOL!!!!!

My JD round baler handbooks say to use the Sheet Bend Knot. Being a Sea Explorer Scout, BSA alumni, I learned my knots. My pet was the Bowline for a quick non slip knot and for fun the Mast head, but for tying two pieces of plastic twine together and have it hold, the sheet bend, defined as tying a line through the loop of another, is THE knot. If you pull it down nice and tight after you tie it, it WILL NOT SLIP! Granny and Square knots, forget it. Can't trust them. Google the knot if interested. Quick and easy once you learn it. I have others I use frequently, but not for hay tying.

As an old scout, explorer, Order of the Arrow, and Scoutmaster. I am the designated rope, line and cord tyer of our fishing group of ten guys. Especially needed around the dock for quick clove hitches, and boat covers for bowline knots.

Looks like a strong interracial marriage to me. LOL. All the guys who boast about being able to create a knot that will Survive a knotter are still discretely and cautiously watching when it goes through the knotter.

My last 2 year summers in high school were aboard tug boats that moved barges up and down the intercoastal water way and up "Old Muddy". Was a deck hand the first year and since they had no cook the second, and I could, got that job. We relieved part of the permanent crew for summer vacations. It was really a blast for me to have to show the old hands how to eye splice a 3" line using a Fid. Got me some respect right off.
