Price a new trailer before buying used

I looked at a used trailer for $2000. and for the heck of it priced a new one. $2000. for used vs. 2500 for new with more features, better ramps, spare tire, brakes on both axles, etc. Think about the price of a set of tires for a used trailer too.

Some states (Indiana is one) that now require brakes on both axles of tandem axle trailers. Beware of this when buying used. You have to work with the right dealer and wait until he orders a batch if you want additional options from the factory.

Very true. I bought both a 20ft skid steer trailer and a 25 ft gooseneck flatbed. In both cases, I bought my new trailers within just a few hundred dollars of what any decent used trailer was bringing. Trailers half price of new were complete junk. All rusty, bad brakes, and bald tires.

Same way with stock trailers. Unless you need living quarters in it, the new version of what you want is usually only a thousand or so more.

A few years ago my bumper hitch 16' stock trailer was getting pretty rusted out, tires smooth ect. Decided to buy a new one for $3900. I decided to take the old one to a local consignment auction, thought I might do better than scrap price. Was surprised when I got the check, $2750! I used that trailer 15 years and got almost what I had paid for it 15 years earlier. People just don't do their research.
