Front-Wheel Weights for Farmall A/Super A: Compatible?

Tractorpunk

We are trying to save the life of a very new tractor owner. He bought a used Super A for his place and is plowing with it.

He reported, idly, "wheelies" on Facebook. My wife and I insisted that 1) he check his plow and choice of throttle and gear and 2) get front-wheel weights. We are buying him a set as a gift, since backflips on tractors without ROPS are no joke.

Are the weights for As compatible with Super As? I see lots of weights listed for As. Forgive this red-tractor novice...most of our stuff is green :p

My SA has from and rear weights.

You don't have to confine your search to an A or a Super A, those same weights are used on IH Cub Cadets. I took a pair of my Super A since it was only used as a lawn mower, and my grandson put them on his Cub Cadet that he plows with.

"Those will fit ALL letter series Farmalls" Agreed!

"Dont worry about a wheelie with that tractor and plow." Agreed again!

A, B, C, H, M, Supers, all use the same front weights. IF you are still looking for a set, I am sure I have an extra set around here... Have them on my C's and H's, but I KNOW I must have a few extra sets! North ID has IH weights like weeds!!! :p

like said, they fit fine.
In my area the front weights bring more $ than the rears, so when you see some cheap, grab em.
loading the front tires will add a few pounds too (I don't like this option, but have run into it on old tractors)

also like said, if the implement is set up correctly..
when dragging it thru tough ground, front wheels not leaving tracks anymore is fairly normal on smaller tractors.
more load than that, the tires usually just spin out.

Sorry lads, but I DO worry about "wheelies" since I had a father-in-law in a coma for six weeks after an accident. And he had 50+ years of experience on tractors.

I am buying my friend a set as a gift, and I'll show him how to fill his tires with antifreeze too.

Thanks for all the other advice on this!

Bryce, I'll let you know. I've a bid in on a set. Shipping is reasonable too. If I lose that auction, I'll be in touch.

Unless his ground is pretty flat you need to get him to sell that offset "A" ASAP!!!! even with weights they can upset real easy if you have the engine side down hill, Then you add in the fact that the steering wheel is kind of in your lap making getting on and off cumbersome. These tractors where made primarily to cultivate with. They had other attachments but they where designed around cultivating.

The weights will just make him more "brave" Get him a center line tractors for general field work.

We ordered a set of weights, but luckily his pasturage of 8 acres is flat as a board. He should be fine. I personally only use old equipment without ROPS for the lightest of duties, such as finish mowing, on flat ground. I like my ROPS and seat belt on the hills.
