Allis chalmer 5020 brakes

Just inherited an Allis Chalmer 5020 tractor that came with a property I purchased. The previous owner said it needed brakeds and he could not find a source for them. Should I give up now or is there a possible source for brake parts for this old tractor that seems to still have some life in it?

Thanks in advance for you comments,

Bob T.

A good parts place should be able to find a match. I am pretty certain that AC bought those components from a major OEM supplier; they did not make their own brake system.

I believe those are dry drum brakes and I don,t think AGCO carries the pads any longer. Unless someone has a set on the shelf salvage yards are probably you're only hope. I know that Wenger's has 5020/5030 parts (800-451-5240) and you might try All States Ag Parts 877-530-4430.

Those tractors are pretty much orphans these days Japanese factory that built them is gone.Probably the best best is having yours relined. You might find a NOS set somewhere. The brakes should be the same as the AC 5030 also several Massey Ferguson tractors like the 205,210 and 220.Some Hinomoto models also shared the same parts. I have a MF 220-4 I've been looking for parts for the 4WD front end with out much luck so I'm going to swap a 2WD front off a 5020 onto to it.Pretty much what has to be done to keep those models going these days.

Spending $300 on brakes is not a big deal. These are rugged little utility tractors. I've had a 1980 AC 5030 for 16 years and all it's needed are rear tires and batteries, put on 500+ hours doing landscaping, mowing, discing, snow blowing, etc. Just change the oil and filters and they'll keep going. The 5015/5020/5030 were made by Toyosha, long since out of business who also made the same models for Simplicity. There are new parts available such as water pumps, alternators, exhaust manifolds. If it's a free tractor and all it needs are brakes you may want to hang on to it. I'll pull a 6-foot finish mower easily.
