OT - Big Hay Sale Today

My Wife/Boss had a yard sale today and I brought down a couple small square bales of hay to wedge into the yard sale, advertise my hay and maybe snag a horse customer, maybe for a couple hundred bales!!!!!

Retired to the other side of the house to put a sharp bale on the lawnmower, clean the air filter and a few other chores on the "to do" list while the yard sale ensued.

My Wife/Boss sold the two sample bales for $1.50 ea and took another $3.00 for two more bales of hay - to be delivered - LOL!!!!!!

A big day on the hay front.....

BTW - wasn't a deep pocketed horse customer in need of the hay, it was a person with chickens and they needed the hay for bedding!

What was your most wacky hay sale?

Happy 4th everyone!

My most wacky hay "sale" was today. Guy called and wanted to borrow six bales for a couple days. Put them on his little trailer so he could take kids on a hayride.

Chickens love to pick through hay, and its good for them too. Use to get a bale ground into the feed, till the mill's hay mill went down and they didn't replace. Now we toss a bale in every once in a while.

As for selling hay, not so much our sale but the aftermath. Sold hay to someone that helps on the farm. Their brother also gave them some. The brother ran a tad short and wanted some back. He didn't want the hay he put up, no he wanted the stuff we did, looked better and had nicer bale. To many people try to bale to soon(to wet) and leave a loose bale, making bad hay.

I had a small field with a lot of weeds. I'd been moving it once a year. Lady wanted weedy hay for her goats, delivered. Worst setup for unloading I ever had. Baled the field the next season and she never called. Said she found someone with weedier hay than mine.

I don't know if it's my wackiest or not but me and the family stopped by the fireworks tent yesterday. As we were planning on how much money to burn, I over heard one of the workers telling the owner that he wasn't paying $14.99 for a small bale straw just for the customers to walk on. It's been pouring the rain for the last week and it was a pure mud hole all around the tent. I had some old, weedy, moldy stuff, about half Johnson grass that's been in the back of the barn for over a year now. I told him I could bring him some for 5 dollars a bale. My barn is only about 5 minutes from the tent. Sold the guy 6 bales...

not that strange I guess but I "rented" around 100 bales for seats at a wedding near me. Got a dollar a bale plus some money for my loading and unloading time. I still fed it out that winter only one bale got wrecked.
