1944 john Deere b oil pump ?

Ok so drop sludge out of crankcase today got all clean but I notice oil gage does not work. So I took bottom oil pump cover off two rotating gears fell one with at rod attached ? I clean them up good and around screen. Now to place back do you just insert back into same position as befor ? As it came out that way?

Better find that square coupler that drives it and make sure it gets put back into the cam drive or you are in a mess of trouble. Probably need to go in from the top side of motor.

The part he is talking about can be seen by removing the top cover. There is a brass square part that is the oil pump drive couple and it is common for those to break and when it does you have no oil pressure due to the pump not being spun like it needs to to pump. I had to replace that on my 1935 JD-B.

The square drive coupler turns the rod that drives the gears that pumps the oil that builds up pressure to the gauge. Better be getting you a good manual before you mess up bad.

Yes if it breaks it will be down in the oil pan area which on the JD-B can be accessed from the top cover plate. It is a simple square part about 1 inch long
