Weather question

After I used my tractor today to do some mowing, I saw that Billings, Montana was hotter than Dallas (like 96 vs 93) and tonight will be colder (47 vs 77) with a dew point some 30 degrees below Dallas' (forgot the numbers on that). Now how is that?

Water is a very good temperature stabilizer.
You can notice it real easy with towns on the coast.

Such as......
The gulf water temperature off the coast of Louisiana is about 83 degrees right now.
Grand Isle right on the coast will be 76 tonight and 84 tomorrow.
But where I live about 100 miles north of the coast will be 70 tonight and 89 tomorrow.
The closer you live to the coast the closer your temperature will stay to that 83 degree water temperature.

The same thing happens with humidity (water) in the air.
Places with very low humidity have wider temperature swings.

I think I remember the weather guy saying that the overnight temperature will cool to approximately the dew point on a calm night. So, the higher the humidity, the less cooling there will be. When I was in the desert along the coast, it would often "cool" to around 90 with fog overnight.

Well guys, the point I'm questioning here is Billings gets beat up in the winter. You'd think that you'd get some relief from the weather with mild summers. Seems it's not the case.
