valve stems

Is there anything wrong with wire brushing my vavle stems they are caked with soot and figured this would be the best way to clean them up

I use the wire wheel on the grinder to clean them up.

do the complete valve, not just the stem as they have to be clean for resurfacing. machine shops soak them in a caustic solution along with the head and they come out clean.

Silly me ! LOL. I was reading this trying to figure out how his tires valve stems got soot on them ! LOL.
