jon f mn or Others Question

I have a nephew by marriage who is wanting to be an over the road driver. He got his CDL. He will begin driving with a trainer. When does his pay start? Does he get paid from the start?

I've heard as low as $.23 as a student. He should get into the $.40 range fairly quickly after he's on his own. Lots of company drivers making $.50+ a mile with experience now depending on what other benifits are also offered. Depending on if he's dry van, refer or flatbed he should make from 2500-3200 miles a week.

Hope you get a reply from someone who currently drives. But back when I started over the road in mid 1985, I went to a local truck driving school for the basics. Then I started with a major local trucking company with a driver/trainer and we were paid from mile ONE as a team. After a couple months was on my own and was with the same company until I quit in fall of 1997. This has been a while ago and can not remember the mileage fee I was paid back then. In the little over 11 years with them, I had over one million accident free miles and was usually home every weekend. John in AZ

Pay depends on company. Some pay flat rate per week while training, some mileage, some not at all. He needs to ask first. The trucking industry is exempt from pay standards. No overtime or minimum wage requirements.
