rusted line ruptured on rear of ford f 250 4x4 . old line one piece . local napa and oriley says must have an adapter from wheel cylinder to any steel line. sounds silly to me as old line needed no adapter. Anyone else have this problem?? Where to get proper lines?? Help is appreciated.

Everyone has the same problem,Ford put a bigger fitting on from the factory, all the lines made now have one size on both ends so you have to adapt to a larger size for the block on the rearend. At least that has been my experience in the past.

The others are right about Ford having bigger fitting, I just re-use the fitting by installing it on a new line and using a double flare tool to make the proper end.

We used to reuse the fitting off brake lines on some foreign cars as well. WE cut the end off with a hack saw,if the fitting was rusted to the stub of line we heated it and dropped it into cold water, cleaned the fitting up on the wire wheel and then put it on the line, double flared the end and it was ready to go , same treatment for both ends. All our brake line came in rolls of 25' , it was the cheapest way to go. We always tried to save the old line's shape and length if we could, then moulded the new piece to match the bends, length and so on.

The others have it right.
If I remember correctly my 97 f150 has a line to the passenger side that both fittings are the same size.
But the one to the drivers side has a big fitting on one end and a small fitting on the other end.

So you can do as the others suggest and flare your old fittings on a new piece of line or get a adapter.

I have a '97 F-150. That line rusted through at least 10 years ago. I did what Bob suggests. Got the line and flaring tool from my local service garage and made it to fit. Because it seemed like a rather short time from new to rust-through, I spiral-wrapped the replacement line with electrical tape and coated it with an undercoat-like compound. So far, so good!

You can buy the fittings at NAPA, I have an SUR&R kit that has all the different fittings. I would also recommend cunifer tubing, easy to flare and bend, also never rust again.

I had a rotted trough brake line behind the tank on my 07 GMC the other day.
Same thing as the fords, there is bigger fitting on the one side.

I used 2 five feet long ready made lines coupled together and cut the line with the bigger fitting where it matched up to the end of the new line. It was luckily at a spot where i could reach it to cut it, put a standard nut on and make a double flare without having to take that piece of line off.
