Found an abandoned John Deere MT! It's a tad rough however..

Out boating on the coast and found this on an island-

A little research showed this tidal, coastal island property belongs to the state of Georgia, specifically the university of Georgia and on an adjacent island they have the marine research facility.

As some time past, this island was privately owned and crops were farmed on the higher ground. I suspect this is a relic of that time.

That is a 40 for sure. You can tell by the quadrant on the rear by the seat. A MT would have the qudrant between your legs if you were sitting at the steering wheel. Very cool find!

Wow ! Take your wrenchs and start unbolting stuff like that front weight and the 3 point arms !

Agree with [b:654c4848f0]hotflashjr[/b:654c4848f0] on this being a Model 40T tractor.

He mentioned that the quadrant was located on the right of the tractor Touch-o-Matic.

Take a look at the photo below of "BW" our 54 Model 40T.

Another identifying part is the speed control lever behind the steering wheel.

The best salvage parts, as mentioned by [b:654c4848f0]Mike M[/b:654c4848f0], are the front weights.

Take a look at the front weights on "BW".

Thanks for sharing your photos and especially the video of thia poor, old JD tractor.

I may very well be wrong, but the center tube and axle housings on that tractor look more like it may be a 420 series tractor. The tube and housings on the 40 were the same as the MT, but the 420 was a bit heavier.

Thanks for the corrections! Did not know that was a "40" series tractor. Not very familiar with the upright two cylinders.

As far as salvage, there ain't no bolts to unbolt! The left hand weight has fallen off, all the steel on that thing is fused together. The steering pedestal is so crystalized it looks like tree bark. A good whack with a sledge and it would be gone. All the sheet metal has rusted away long ago. The tank is there but fallen sideways on the frame and the bottom is gone from it. The oil pan is full of holes, and sand.

Nope, not a good part on it, probably been submerged in salt water then dried out hundreds of times in the years it has been there. .

If anyone wanted it, they would need a tug and a barge with a crane to get it
